Cape Town plans to invest billions of dollars to create more than 100,000 jobs

The city is also participating in the Infrastructure Skills Grant Programme

Over the next three years, Cape Town is set to invest US$2.42 billion in infrastructure projects, significantly more than other megacities. This investment is expected to generate 135 000 new jobs. This is reported by BussinessTech.

Cape Town Mayor Jordin Hill-Lewis said that 75 per cent of US$678 million allocated to infrastructure in 2024/25 will support low-income households, more than any other city's infrastructure budget.

Cape Town has also participated in the National Treasury-funded Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG) Programme since the 2014/15 financial year.

The aim of the programme is to train professionals with skills shortages for municipalities through training and mentoring, as well as assisting with registration with professional boards. The 125 graduates in Cape Town have already gained skills in areas such as civil engineering, engineering, materials science, biotechnology, chemistry, environmental science, and surveying.
