Ethiopia's largest media holding company joins TV BRICS partner network
TV BRICS International Media Network is developing co-operation with the media of the new BRICS member countries that joined the group in 2024. After the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Arab Emirates, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia joined the information exchange on the TV BRICS platform. The co-operation agreement was signed by Admasu Damtew, CEO of Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), Ethiopia's largest state-owned media holding company, and Janna Tolstikova, CEO of TV BRICS.
The agreements will allow the residents of the republic to receive objective information about the international activities of Russia, which chairs BRICS in 2024, and other member states of the association. In its turn, TV BRICS will adapt materials from its colleagues from Addis Ababa into foreign languages, place them on its own platforms – a multi-lingual portal and TV channel – as well as distribute them through its network of partners, which already includes more than 70 major media outlets from around the world.
The importance of international co-operation in the field of mass communications and, in particular, the partnership of the republican media with TV BRICS was emphasised by Kebede Desissa, member of the FBC Board of Directors and State Minister for Government Communication Service.
"TV BRICS and FBC partnership promises to be a channel for sharing news, cultural content and best practices. It will allow us to share Ethiopia's rich heritage with a wider audience. At the same time, we will have diverse and dynamic stories from different BRICS countries on our screens, which will enrich our agenda and contribute to a better understanding of the global community," Kebede Desissa is confident.
Fana Broadcasting Corporate was established in 1994. It is headquartered in Addis Ababa. FBC specialises in political, economic, social news about Ethiopia and aims to become one of the leading media holdings in East Africa. The media holding company includes the national television channel Fana Television, which was the first in the country to broadcast in Full HD, Ethiopia's only radio station with regional affiliates Radio Fana and the FBC news portal. Fana Broadcasting Corporate operates in the national languages as well as English and Arabic. The media holding company's information resources are used by about 20 million people daily.
"FBC is dedicated to comprehensive coverage of current events at the national and regional levels as well as fostering a strong connection between the government and the public. Cooperation with TV BRICS will empower FBC's audience with accurate information on the emerging multipolar system, Ethiopia's growing role in the BRICS+ and on how the community develops. Moreover, the partnership will facilitate exchange of best practices between leading international media, which will enhance FBC's global competitiveness," says FBC CEO Admasu Damtew.
Media Network CEO Janna Tolstikova said Ethiopia has become the 20th country to join the information exchange through TV BRICS. Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, UAE as well as Argentina, Armenia, Venezuela, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Cuba, Mozambique and Tunisia are already participating in the process. She emphasised that collaboration with TV BRICS will ensure that Ethiopia's humanitarian and economic agenda is more deeply integrated into the BRICS information space and will enable the people of the republic to receive relevant international news from source media from other countries.
"Organic, seamless integration of new members into BRICS is one of the goals of Russia's presidency in the association in 2024. TV BRICS International Media Network creates conditions for the media of these countries to join the system of multilateral exchange as soon as possible and create a unified BRICS information space. At the stage of expansion of BRICS and strengthening of its role in the system of international relations, it is especially important to provide national media with access to a global audience. We expect that thanks to the professional work of the FBC editorial team, Ethiopia's economic and humanitarian agenda will be of interest not only in the BRICS countries, but also in partner countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and around the world"![]()
