India and the UN sign agreement to improve food security and nutrition
India and the UN have entered into an agreement aimed at improving food security and nutrition in the country. The agreement was signed between India's Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
The document aims to build more effective and efficient national food-based social safety nets. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
It also aims to increase the consumption of diverse, nutritious, and fortified foods, improve women's social and financial mobility, and strengthen adaptive capacity for climate-resilient livelihoods and food systems.
At the meeting where the agreement was signed, the two sides discussed a range of issues, including transforming agriculture, improving food security for smallholder farmers, promoting millet cultivation, and ensuring the sustainability of fishing communities.
Devesh Chaturvedi, Indian Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, stated that India and WFP have a long-standing partnership that is based on the common goal of achieving food security.
