Iran announces date of Ranger's Day

Ranger Day aims to honour these people for their efforts to conserve biodiversity

29 October, has been officially declared "Ranger Day" in Iran's national calendar, announced Nourollah Moradi an official of the Iranian Department of Environment.

Rangers and environmentalists play a critical role in protecting wildlife, natural resources and ecosystems, often risking their lives in the process. Ranger Day aims to recognise these individuals for their efforts to conserve biodiversity and natural resources. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

To effectively protect the environment in Iran, the number of gamekeepers should increase tenfold, according to Hassan Akbari, Deputy Head of natural environment and biodiversity of the Department of Environment.

Various animal species such as the Asiatic cheetah, great bustard and fallow deer are endangered due to factors such as habitat loss, illegal trade and human encroachment. Akbari emphasised the need for specific conservation strategies that take into account the unique challenges of each species.

On issues such as illegal hunting and habitat encroachment, Akbari suggested implementing participatory conservation models and involving the private sector in environmental protection work.
