Iran boosts oil refining capacity by 160,000 barrels per day
The additional output has helped address growing domestic demand
Iran's refining capacity has increased by 160,000 barrels per day (bpd) since August of the previous year, now totalling 2.4 million bpd, according to Mohammad Ali Dadvar, CEO of the Iranian national company engaged in oil refining and distribution. This was reported by PressTV, a partner of TV BRICS.
The most significant expansion occurred at Iran’s largest and second most productive refinery, situated in the Khuzestan province. Mohammad Ali Dadvar noted that the facility alone is now processing 70,000 bpd more than it was during the previous summer.
In addition to the refinery in Khuzestan, other sites have also seen capacity improvements. One located on the southern coast, and another in central Iran have each increased output by 35,000 bpd over the same period. These upgrades contribute to a broader strategy aimed at reinforcing Iran’s self-sufficiency in fuel production.
This increase in refining capacity has enabled Iran to lower the volume of crude oil held in storage. Furthermore, the additional output has helped address growing domestic demand for fuel, ensuring stability in sectors such as transportation and electricity generation.
