Iran plans to use artificial intelligence in waste management system
The country is taking measures to reduce the use of plastic
Iranian authorities intend to use artificial intelligence (AI) in waste management. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS, citing Mehdi Khadem-Sameni, a spokesman for the Energy Ministry of Iran.
The ministry said this on the occasion of Iran's Clean Earth Week, which kicked off on 22 April.
The event emphasises on reducing the use of plastic packaging in the country. According to Khadem-Sameni, the Energy Ministry has previously developed and approved a standard for biodegradable bags.
The official also explained that there are five types of waste. Among them, there are medical and industrial ones that require special measures.
The publication notes that Iran's leadership has allocated 50 trillion rials (about US$1,2 billion) to the public and private sectors to build infrastructure for artificial intelligence operators in the current calendar year, which began on 20 March. A national committee was also established in December 2023 to promote and develop AI in the country.
