New metro line to open in Egypt's capital city

It includes 34 stations

The last section of Cairo Metro Line 3 will begin trial operation for passengers on Wednesday, as announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The milestone marks the completion of the first transverse line connecting the eastern and western parts of Greater Cairo. The 41.2-kilometre line includes 34 stations and plays an important role in connecting different parts of the city's electric railway network.

Before allowing passengers on board, the station was successfully tested without passengers. All systems such as lighting, air conditioning, ventilation, fire suppression, and train operation were thoroughly tested for safety and efficiency.

The third line of the Cairo metro, implemented in four phases, also includes three maintenance stations for rolling stock operating on the line. these workshops, located in Abbasia, Imbaba and Al-Salam, provide maintenance services for both light and heavy trains and are among the largest in the Middle east and Africa. Established in 1987, the Cairo metro is the oldest metro system in Africa.
