Saudi Arabia's Heritage Commission reveals latest ancient finds

The excavations took place in Jerash

Saudi Arabia's Heritage Commission has released the results of an archaeological excavation in Jerash and said the findings highlight the historical importance of the site.

Experts working at the excavation site found the remains of dwellings built of stone and mud with new architectural features. This is reported by Arab News.

A granite stone with a three-line Islamic inscription was the second find of its kind. Other items include stone tools for daily chores, jewellery and pottery.

Fragments include glazed pieces of pottery, glass artefacts and soapstone decorations used for pots.

This month, the Historic Jeddah programme, in collaboration with the Heritage Commission, announced 25,000 finds at four archaeological sites, the oldest of which dates back to the first and second centuries of the Hijri calendar.
