South Africa to use World Economic Forum for strengthening ties with ASEAN

South Africa is poised to amplify its global presence by leveraging the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) to spotlight its G20 presidency and deepen ties with ASEAN and other international partners. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Speaking at a pre-WEF briefing in Johannesburg, South Africa's Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana emphasised the strategic importance of the forum for advancing South Africa’s leadership role on the world stage.

Godongwana noted that the 2025 WEF, under the theme "Collaboration in the Intelligent Age," aligns with South Africa’s vision for innovation, inclusion, and sustainable development.

The event provides a platform to promote the country’s G20 presidency, which carries the theme "Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability."

President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the South African delegation to the forum, during which the country will emphasise its priorities and build partnerships with key economic groups, including ASEAN member countries.

Godongwana highlighted the necessity of collaboration between government and business in presenting a unified message that showcases South Africa’s strengths while addressing global issues.

With its G20 presidency and a focus on fostering global partnerships, South Africa aims to set the stage for impactful dialogue and cooperation at the WEF.
