Brazil and Russia strengthen ties with new sister city agreement

Economy, culture, and education are the main areas of cooperation

The cities of Voskresensky in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region and Campina das Missoes in Brazil’s state of Rio Grande do Sul have signed a cooperation agreement. The official ceremony took place at the Kremlin in Voskresenskoye, according to the website of the regional government.

The document was signed by the Head of the local Russian administration, Aleksander Zapevalov, and the Mayor of Campina das Missoes, Carlos Justen. The ceremony was held during a meeting between the Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Olga Guseva, and the Brazilian delegation.

The Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening relations with Brazil and the great potential for expanding cooperation.

"At the moment, we are paying special attention to the development of relations with Brazil, which is an important partner for the Nizhny Novgorod region. The signing of this agreement represents a significant step towards the expansion of commercial, economic and humanitarian ties," she said.

The agreement between the Russian municipality and its Brazilian sister city will focus on collaboration in the areas of economy, culture and education. As Voskresensky is an important centre for traditional crafts, both parties expressed their willingness to exchange experiences and implement joint projects.

Carlos Justen, in turn, shared his impressions of the Russian partner city and the signing of the twinning agreement.

"Thanks to Olga Guseva, we are in Nizhny Novgorod and are experiencing a truly historic moment. Until today, I only knew Russia through books, but seeing all this with my own eyes is a completely different experience. We Brazilians deeply respect our history and traditions, and it is very gratifying to see that you Russians also preserve and value your historical and cultural heritage. I am sure that our cooperation will act as a strong driving force for our development," she said.
