Brazil boosts blue economy with new workforce training programme
The government of the State of Rio de Janeiro has launched a workforce training and certification initiative aimed at strengthening the Blue Economy sector. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
The programme will provide free specialised courses to equip professionals with the skills needed for the expanding maritime job market.
The initiative will offer training in key areas such as cargo handling, ship deck operations, auxiliary machinery operations, industrial painting and corrosion, welding, diesel engine mechanics, and vessel electrics. The courses will include hands-on training and certification to enhance employability in this competitive industry.
"The Blue Economy is one of the state's key revenue sources and a driver of technological innovation, modernising port infrastructure, strengthening the shipbuilding industry, and boosting the maritime transport and logistics sector. Additionally, coastal tourism and fishing activities play a vital role in economic growth, creating job opportunities across various fields," said Cassio Coelho, Secretary of State for Energy and the Blue Economy.
The programme aims to train approximately 2,000 professionals within a year through agreements with local governments, businesses, and institutions.
