India launches special policy to become leader in the field of biotechnology
The policy also aims to revolutionise the production of various products, from medicines to biomaterials
The Government of India has approved a new BioE3 policy that aims to use biotechnology to improve the economy and environment and create jobs. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The policy does not replace traditional methods but complements them by using biotechnology solutions to address India's development challenges by 2047.
BioE3 aims to make India a world leader in biotechnology by encouraging innovation and commercialisation of biotechnological developments.
It envisages setting up special centres and biotechnology companies for biotechnology development.
The policy also envisages three key strategies: setting up research centres and research groups, bridging gaps in biotechnology development, and setting up new biotechnology centres.
The strategy of the programme is to create a more sustainable and innovative economy through which India can tackle global challenges such as climate change and pollution.
More than 21 ministries and over 8,000 biotech startups will participate in the policy's implementation. The policy is expected to come into effect by December this year and is expected to create new jobs, increase GDP, and strengthen sustainable development.
