Indian students sing in Russian: TV BRICS holds teleconference with Amity University

The event helped strengthen academic and cultural ties between India and Russia

On 8 April 2025, TV BRICS together with its partner Amity University (India), held a teleconference "Russia. Points of Attraction."

The meeting was aimed at promoting Russian language and culture among students from India studying Russian.

The teleconference brought together students and teachers of the Russian language department of Amity University with Russian partner universities.

The hosts were Tamara Skok, Head of the Modern Russian project, PhD in Philology, and Evgeny Mishin, Manager of International Cooperation at TV BRICS.

From Amity University the event was attended by:

  • Kumari Mansi – Coordinator for the Centre for BRICS Studies;

  • Parijat Bhattacherjee, Subhash Kumar, Akhauri Nitish Kumar and lecturer Otabek Khomidov – representatives of the Russian Language Department.

The Indian students prepared a creative programme: they recited poems and sang Russian songs, shared their stories of getting to know Russian culture and told what prompted them to choose this language to study.

"Language is not only a means of communication, but also a powerful tool of soft power. It promotes mutual understanding and strengthens partnership between countries," Mansi emphasised. According to her, the teleconference was a vivid example of how educational initiatives contribute to strengthening ties within BRICS and develop dialogue between cultures.

According to Evgeny Mishin, the TV BRICS teleconference showed that Indian youth's interest in Russia and its cultural heritage is not formal, but lively and sincere:

"I was particularly touched by the effort with which the students approached the performance of Russian songs and poems. It is obvious that studying Russian is not just an academic discipline for them, but a window into centuries-old culture and an opportunity to broaden their horizons. International teleconferences form an emotional bond between countries and lay a solid foundation for educational programmes, exchanges and joint projects," said Mishin.

The international information and educational project "Modern Russian" was created in 2007 to popularise the Russian language, improve the literacy level of the population and provide linguistic assistance. It is implemented by TV BRICS. It has no analogues in Russia and abroad in terms of a set of practical philological activities. Information resources and consulting services of the project are used in more than 150 countries of the world. The programme cooperates with the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute and the Russkiy Mir Foundation.
