Iran utilises advanced photogrammetry to preserve cultural heritage

The project to create high-resolution 3D models, gigapixel imagery, and ororthophotos

The Niavaran Cultural-Historical Complex in northern Tehran has initiated a project to document its iconic artefacts using state-of-the-art photogrammetry technology. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the source, the complex, which is home to one of Iran’s most significant cultural collections, is embracing cutting-edge technologies to ensure the protection, accessibility, and promotion of our national heritage.

The project will focus on over 100 key artefacts, employing photogrammetry techniques to create high-resolution 3D models, gigapixel imagery, and ororthophotos.

These digital replicas aim to provide detailed visual documentation, enabling enhanced public access and supporting preventive conservation measures.

Photogrammetry, a non-contact imaging method, uses photographs to accurately capture the shapes, dimensions, and textures of objects. Its efficiency, affordability, and ability to reproduce precise colour details make it an invaluable tool for museums and heritage centres worldwide.

Experts claim that this photogrammetry project represents a pioneering step in the digital preservation of cultural artefacts, serving as a model for other heritage institutions worldwide.
