St. Petersburg University and Brazil’s Unicamp to launch joint master’s programmes

Partnership aims to strengthen academic and cultural ties and deepen BRICS cooperation

St. Petersburg State University (SPbU), a partner of the TV BRICS International Media Network, has opened its first representative office in Latin America, based at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Brazil. The new centre will serve as a platform for joint conferences, seminars, lectures, and summer schools.

“These are two world-class classical research institutions implementing innovative projects and achieving breakthrough results across various fields of knowledge,” noted SPbU Rector Nikolay Kropachev.

The university has already organised a series of events aimed at promoting Russian education. Two joint master’s degree programmes are also in the pipeline, offering dual diplomas in Humanities and Applied Social Sciences and Political Governance and Public Policy.

Speaking exclusively to TV BRICS, Professor Rafael Dias, Advisor for International Relations at Unicamp, said that the two universities have signed an agreement enabling both short- and long-term exchanges for faculty, staff, and students. He expressed hope that this collaboration would encourage more Brazilian students to explore the Russian language and culture.

“Deeper engagement among BRICS countries is sparking growing interest among Brazilian students in the history and culture of their partner nations. The opening of SPbU’s office at Unicamp marks an important step forward for cultural exchange. Discussions are already underway to broaden programmes that will offer Brazilian youth greater exposure to Russian literature, music, and traditions,” Dias commented.

The new representative office in Brazil is SPbU’s 13th overseas centre. Since 2018, more than 35,000 people from 165 countries have taken part in the university’s international initiatives aimed at promoting the Russian language and education.
