Subrahmanyam Jaishankar meets Sergey Lavrov in Jakarta
The two sides discussed bilateral economic issues
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Jakarta on Thursday, 13 July, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events.
The foreign ministers discussed bilateral economic issues of mutual interest.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Indian Foreign Secretary met ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn in Indonesia, proposing dialogue between India and ASEAN in the financial, cyber and maritime spheres.
According to India's foreign minister, relations with ASEAN pave the way for the realisation of the Indo-Pacific vision.
Jaishankar is on a six-day visit to Indonesia and Thailand from 12 July and his foreign engagements in the two countries will conclude on 18 July.
Jaishankar arrived in Jakarta to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meetings under the ASEAN-India format, the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum on 13-14 July, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
On the previous day Sergei Lavrov held talks in Jakarta with Wang Yi, head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. He further met with Laos Foreign Minister Salemsai Kommasith. The Russian diplomat also had a dialogue with ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn.
