TV BRICS project about gold mining in Urals is shortlisted for "Rendezvous with Russia. Siberian Character" International Film Festival
"Rendezvous with Russia. Siberian Character" International Film Festival named after Mikhail Ulyanov will open on 10 March. The event, organised with the support of the regional government and the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, will be held in Omsk and Omsk region with online broadcasting in Russia and abroad until 14 March.
The documentary film produced by TV BRICS "Uralian Anomaly" (2025, written by Ksenia Komissarova, Chief Director – Andrey Porshnyak, Chief Cameraman – Dmitry Golovko) was included in the competition programme of the festival.
Andrey Porshnyak, who will present the film at the event, shared his impressions of the upcoming competition.
"We are honoured to present our film at the 'Rendezvous with Russia. Siberian Character' International Film Festival. 'Uralian Anomaly' is not just a film about gold mining. It is a story about people who have dedicated their lives to exploring the bowels of the earth and uncovering its secrets. Participation in such a prestigious competition gives us a unique opportunity to share this story with a wide audience and emphasise the importance of the geologist's profession," he said.
Among the heroes of the film are a young married couple Alyona and Maksim Grebnev. They met when they were students, and since then their lives have been inseparably linked in both personal and professional spheres – they both work as geologists. The spouses shared that the filming was a fascinating experience for them, which helped them to gain a deeper understanding of the profession at the start of their careers and to inspire young people to choose this promising and exciting field.
The "Uralian Anomaly" film was shot in the Sverdlovsk Region, one of the richest mineral resource regions in the country. The premiere screening of the film took place on 24 January in Ekaterinburg. More than 100 people took part in the project, and the filming took place in 30 different locations.
Previously, the TV BRICS team also shot the documentaries "Gold" and "More precious than gold" in Khabarovsk Krai, "Magadan Silver" in Magadan Oblast, and "The Golden Coast of the Arctic" in Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.
In the competition programme of the film festival there are 22 documentaries, 10 popular science films, 8 full-length feature films, and 28 animated films. In addition, the audience can expect creative meetings with famous filmmakers and master classes.
