Zimbabwe allocates funding for 80 new schools to strengthen education sector
The government is set to hire 8,000 teachers in two phases
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the education sector by allocating funds for the construction of at least 80 new schools. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve infrastructure, address student-teacher ratios, and ensure better learning conditions across the country. This is reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.
During a parliamentary session, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerai Moyo provided an update on the state of educational infrastructure and recruitment efforts. He assured legislators that resources have been secured to support the construction of new schools and that work is progressing as planned.
“In the 2025 school calendar, we have secured adequate resources to construct new schools. We are targeting not less than 120 new schools, including 30 new ones. We have already received funding from the Ministry of Finance through the Building Society, and they will be distributed to all the provinces. We are constructing climate-proof schools,” he stated.
The minister also addressed teacher recruitment efforts and the registration of satellite schools, highlighting the government’s dedication to expanding access to quality education.
“We are going to recruit 8,000 teachers, but we are going to do it in two phases, with at least 3,000 set to be recruited in the second term and the balance in the third term,” he added.
The government continues to focus on strengthening the education sector through infrastructure development, curriculum enhancement, and improving teacher welfare.
