Zimbabwe to begin local production of solar panels and lithium batteries

Zimbabwe promotes clean cooking solutions to improve public health and environmental sustainability

Zimbabwe is set to launch large-scale production of solar panels and lithium batteries. This is reported by The Herald, a partner of TV BRICS.

The initiative aims to boost Zimbabwe’s renewable energy capacity through enhanced research, innovation, and local manufacturing, positioning the country to capitalise on its lithium reserves and growing demand for clean energy solutions.

Cabinet recently approved a partnership with technology universities to advance solar innovation, training, research and, ultimately, manufacturing, making use of Zimbabwean local lithium resources.

The broader goal of driving economic growth through renewable energy investments, aligning the strategy with Zimbabwe’s 17-sector economy, particularly agriculture, mining, industry, and manufacturing.

Zimbabwe is also preparing for a national shift away from firewood dependence, especially for cooking, promoting clean cooking solutions to improve public health and environmental sustainability.
