Brazil announces investment to expand water security infrastructure for 6,000 rural households

The state aims to double rural sanitation coverage through targeted interventions

The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro has unveiled a comprehensive US$22.7 million investment plan aimed at strengthening water security, the primary source of drinking water for more than nine million people across the state. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

The initiative includes the expansion of rural sanitation infrastructure in eight municipalities and a significant upgrade in the water monitoring network. An estimated 6,000 rural households will receive individual wastewater treatment systems, such as biodigester septic tanks, improving both public health and water quality.

According to the source, the newly launched Guandu Basin observatory will house Brazil’s most advanced hydrological monitoring network, featuring 83 additional sensor stations. These upgrades are expected to generate high-resolution data for water quality and quantity management, aiding environmental agencies and local stakeholders in sustainable resource planning.
