Brazil seeks to expand trade with Vietnam
Brazil highly values the growing trade relations with Vietnam and seeks to further develop them. This was stated by Brazilian Senate Vice President Eduardo Gomes when he proposed to organise an exhibition on Vietnam at the Brazilian Federal Senate. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
At a meeting with the Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil, Bui Van Nghi, Gomes emphasised the importance of raising the Brazilian public's awareness of Vietnam and strengthening bilateral economic, trade, and cultural ties. This is necessary to realise the strategic partnership established during Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Brazil in November 2024.
Ambassador Nghi noted that Brazil is Vietnam's largest partner in Latin America. Vietnam imports soybeans, corn, and cotton from Brazil, and exports electronics, tyres, garments and footwear. He also emphasised the need to speed up negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
On the same day, Ambassador Nghi met with Special Advisor to the Brazilian President Celso Amorim to discuss bilateral relations.
In addition, the ASEAN-Brazil parliamentary friendship group made its official debut at the Brazilian National Congress. Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa said at the event that the Asian market is of strategic importance to Brazil, especially in agriculture, animal protein, and technology.
While Brazil's main exports to ASEAN currently include soybeans, coffee, beef, and chicken, he expects trade in manufactured goods and services to increase in the future.
