Chile's economy grows by 3.8% in March
Stronger output across key sectors supports steady growth
The latest economic data shows that Chile's economy is growing: it expanded at an annualised rate of 3.8 per cent in March, well above previous forecasts. Analysts had projected growth closer to 3 per cent, but robust activity across multiple sectors drove the figure significantly higher.
Key drivers included a 4.4 per cent rise in goods production, fueled by strong manufacturing output, particularly in food processing and agricultural exports. The mining sector also contributed positively, supported by increased extraction of key minerals.
Commerce saw an 8.9 per cent boost, with both wholesale and retail segments performing well. Wholesale trade benefited from higher sales of essential goods and industrial equipment, while retail growth was led by specialty stores and digital sales platforms, according to Cronica Digital, a partner of TV BRICS.
The services sector expanded by 2.7 per cent, with healthcare and personal services leading the way. Preliminary first-quarter GDP figures are expected later this month, offering further insight into the country’s economic trajectory.
