China–Malaysia mutual visa-free travel agreement comes into effect on 17 July
The cumulative duration of visa-free stays must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period
The Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Malaysia will officially enter into force on 17 July, allowing passport holders of both countries to travel visa-free for up to 30 days per visit. This is reported by BERNAMA, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to an official statement issued by the Embassy of China in Malaysia, the agreement permits citizens of China and Malaysia holding ordinary passports to enter, exit, or transit through each other’s territories without the need for a visa. The visa exemption applies to short-term visits for purposes such as tourism, business, family visits, cultural exchanges, private affairs, medical treatment, and travel as crew members.
The cumulative duration of visa-free stays must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period. For activities involving employment, education, media work, or any undertaking requiring prior authorisation, travellers must apply for the appropriate visa in advance.
This agreement follows the commitment made during the state visit of President Xi Jinping to Kuala Lumpur in April 2025, aimed at strengthening people-to-people exchanges and enhancing bilateral cooperation under the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia.
The mutual visa exemption marks a significant milestone in diplomatic relations, further facilitating mobility and economic exchange between the two countries.
