Chinese Foreign Ministry: Xi Jinping's visit to Russia to strengthen strategic partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia and take part in the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. China's Foreign Ministry published an official comment on the occasion on its website.

"I believe that the important consensus reached by the two heads of state will further deepen political mutual trust and enrich strategic cooperation," said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, quoted in the statement.

During the visit, Xi Jinping is expected to hold strategic talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The topics of discussion will be the development of bilateral relations, as well as key international and regional issues.

Beijing noted that this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and China and Russia, as founding members of the organisation and permanent members of the Security Council, intend to strengthen cooperation in multilateral platforms, including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that the two sides will work together to strengthen the global South and promote a multipolar world.
