Egypt to expand its renewable energy infrastructure by 2026

The main goal is to achieve 42 per cent of installed energy capacity from renewable energy sources in the near future

Egypt is accelerating its transition to renewable energy as part of a strategic investment drive, aiming to establish itself as a regional energy hub. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The initiative was outlined during a high-level meeting between Planning Minister Rania Al-Mashat and Electricity Minister Mahmoud Essmat, where officials detailed the country’s investment strategy for the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Egypt is set to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, with a target of 12,000 megawatts of renewable capacity by the end of 2026.

The Government noted that the main goal in this area is to achieve 42 per cent of installed energy capacity from renewable energy sources by 2030.

The transition is expected to reduce carbon emissions, promote industrial expansion, and enhance economic resilience. As part of its regional integration strategy, Egypt is strengthening electricity interconnections with neighbouring markets in Africa.

Essmat pointed to existing agreements and future partnerships with Saudi Arabia, aimed at improving cross-border energy exchange and bolstering energy security. Key investment priorities for 2025/26 include optimising renewable energy sources, enhancing electricity distribution, and expanding transmission networks to support Egypt’s long-term sustainable development goals.
