Employees of Russian technical university teach engineering to Chinese students
The programme is organised with the support of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China
Ivan Chernykh, Dmitry Blokhin and Dmitry Makashin of the Department of Metal Cutting Machines and Tools at Omsk State Technical University (a partner of TV BRICS) conduct lectures and practical classes at the Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology (LNIST).
Metrology and resistance of materials have been added to descriptive geometry and engineering graphics, which they have been teaching for the last two years. The classes are part of the first and second year programme.
Ivan Chernykh, who has already taught twice at LNIST, said that the trip was less difficult both culturally and in overcoming the language barrier. This, he added, is helped, including by students and staff from the Chinese institute.
“The new students are very active and interested in learning, and with the LNIST staff we are already like old friends, always happy to see each other. In addition to helping us in our work, they organise various activities for us, introduce us to the university and the surrounding area of the city. They even organised a festive concert for our employee, who turned 30, where creative groups performed. We sang famous Russian songs ourselves and taught our foreign colleagues our language. I would say that they give their best to make the Russians here comfortable and interesting,” said Ivan Chernykh, a senior lecturer at OmSTU.
At the end of the term, the polytechnics will conduct a final test for Chinese students and take their exams. The students are also given homework – every week the teacher receives about 140 drawings for checking.
The training process is carried out under a programme organised with the support of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
At present, OmSTU and LNIST, in addition to a joint master's programme, are discussing student exchange and research.
