Iran boosts global tea exports to Russia and India with US$17 million in sales

Iran has strengthened its position in the global tea market, exporting 13,000 tonnes of tea worth US$17 million over the past 11 months, with Russia and India emerging as the top buyers. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Iranian tea has gained international recognition for its high quality, largely due to the country's commitment to zero pesticide use.

Experts believe that this eco-friendly approach has positioned Iran’s tea industry as a benchmark for sustainable non-oil exports, boosting demand in key international markets.

Over the past year, Iran produced 28,000 tonnes of dried tea from 22,000 hectares of tea plantations, with the total value of domestic production estimated at US$50 million.

Despite this strong output, Iran also relies on imports to meet local demand, bringing in 38,000 tonnes of tea over the first 10 months of the year.

With increasing global interest in pesticide-free tea and sustainable agriculture, Iran’s tea industry is expected to further expand its footprint in international markets, the source claims.
