Iran climbs global steel rankings with March output surge
In March, Iran significantly increased its steel production, solidifying its position as the seventh-largest global producer. Recent data indicates that the country manufactured approximately 3.3 million metric tonnes of steel during the month, marking a 3.7 per cent rise compared to the previous year.
This growth allowed Iran to move up three spots in the global rankings, trailing behind leading producers such as China, India, Russia, and other countries.
Iran’s production accounted for over 62 per cent of the total steel output in West Asia, a region that also encompasses Saudi Arabia and several other neighbouring countries, as reported by Press TV, a partner of TV BRICS. Globally, steel production in March reached 166.1 million metric tonnes, reflecting a 2.9 per cent increase from the previous year.
Additionally, Iran managed to maintain its standing as one of the world’s top steel producers throughout most of the past year.
