Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasises importance of Strategic Partnership Agreement with Russia

He also emphasised the importance of the countries' cooperation in BRICS, SCO, and EAEU

The signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and Iran has become an important milestone in the development of bilateral relations and opened new prospects for cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, trade, and transport. This was stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk in Tehran, where the III Caspian Economic Forum was held. His words were reported by Pars Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to him, this agreement clearly outlined the directions of development of cooperation between the two countries. He also noted the important role of multilateral structures in Tehran-Moscow cooperation.

"Regional and international organisations, including the Eurasian Economic Union, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, open new opportunities for Russia-Iran partnership. We expect that their potential will bring tangible benefits to our nations"

For his part, Overchuk emphasised that cooperation between the states has become even more intense since the signing of the agreement, which demonstrates the expansion of diplomatic interaction.

The document also provides for the creation of an independent payment infrastructure of the two countries. Speaking at the forum, Overchuk said Moscow and Tehran have almost completely switched to settlements in national currencies in mutual trade.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty was signed by the two presidents during Pezeshkian's visit to Moscow on 17 January.
