Leaders of Zimbabwe and Russia held talks in Kremlin

President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa, who visited Moscow to take part in the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory, held talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the Kremlin Press Service.

"Zimbabwe is our reliable partner on the African continent. Next year, we will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations"

He noted that the two countries maintain active contacts at the ministerial level and that inter-parliamentary dialogue is developing. Friendship groups with Zimbabwe operate in both chambers of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Additionally, the Russian leader stressed that there are prospects for enhancing cooperation in geological exploration, energy, and agriculture.

"Russia and Zimbabwe take common or very close positions on most topical issues on the international agenda. We value, Mr President, your support of Russian initiatives at the United Nations and on other multilateral platforms," said Putin, adding that he looks forward to the presence of Zimbabwe's foreign minister at the ministerial meeting at the end of the year.

Mnangagwa, in turn, congratulated the Russian people and President Putin on the 80th anniversary of Victory and on the successful conduct of the commemorative events.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to once again hold discussions aimed at strengthening and deepening our bilateral cooperation. Following up on our previous meeting in June 2024, we are ready to move forward," he said.

Earlier, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amon Murwira, held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In response to a related question from TV BRICS, Murwira stated that the African republic is working on fulfilling the requirements necessary for accession to BRICS.
