Level of digital literacy in Kazakhstan is close to 93%

Citizens most often use the Internet for communication and entertainment

According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms (ASPR) of Kazakhstan, today 92.8 per cent of the country's citizens aged 16 to 74 have skills in working with modern technologies. The survey covered about 21 thousand households, as reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the survey, more than 90 per cent of Kazakhstanis actively use computers, laptops and tablets, and 96.2 per cent of citizens have access to the Internet (including mobile). At the same time, almost every resident of the country has a mobile phone (99.3 per cent).

As for the ways of using the network, messaging (69.6 per cent) and activity in social networks (65.8 per cent) are the leading ones. Downloading content occupies a notable share: films, music, and games interest almost half of Kazakhstani users (48.1 per cent).

Online shopping has become a habit for 28.5 per cent of respondents. The most popular goods on the Internet remain clothes and shoes (62.1 per cent), food (49.1 per cent), and cosmetics (32.7 per cent).

As the agency notes, back in 2020, the country's government set a goal of increasing digital literacy to 87 per cent by 2025.
