Malaysia and China sign visa-free agreement to boost exchanges and cooperation
The agreement complements ongoing initiatives
China and Malaysia signed the mutual visa exemption agreement during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent state visit, as reported by BERNAMA.
Experts described the agreement as a strategic step that enhances people-to-people exchanges and deepens the Malaysia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visa-free arrangement is expected to boost mobility, cultural cooperation, and Chinese investment in Malaysia’s high-growth sectors.
“The agreement complements ongoing initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, by enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration in the region,” said Awang Azma, political analyst. He added that it also aligns with regional goals by promoting stability and ASEAN cooperation, supporting both countries’ shared commitment to multilateralism.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Lin Jian, welcomed the move, saying it would advance the China-Malaysia “community with a shared future” by boosting exchanges and cooperation across various fields.
The mutual visa exemption, signed by Malaysia’s Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, applies to holders of public affairs and ordinary passports, marking a new chapter in the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
