Decade-high growth reinforces the country's global leadership in this field
Malaysia has solidified its status as a key player in the global high-tech trade, ranking as the world’s ninth-largest exporter of advanced technology products in 2023 among 143 nations. This marks the country’s strongest performance in the sector over the past ten years, as reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
Recent data reveals that high-tech exports surged by US$2 billion, reaching a historic US$127 billion last year. These advanced goods accounted for nearly 59 per cent of the nation’s total manufacturing exports, a significant increase from the previous year’s 52 per cent. Alongside this growth, Malaysia achieved its highest trade surplus in a decade, exceeding US$51.5 billion.
Accurately assessing high-tech export value requires adherence to internationally recognised benchmarks, including classifications established by major economic organisations.
Efforts are underway to further enhance the national innovation ecosystem, ensuring long-term growth and leadership in high-tech industries.
