President of Belarus approves strategies for country's participation in BRICS and SCO
The documents are planned for five years
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has approved the strategies of the republic's participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS. The drafts of the relevant documents have been submitted by the government of the country for consideration by the head of state, reports BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS, referring to the administration of the Belarusian leader.
It is specified that the approved Action Strategy for the implementation of foreign policy of the Republic of Belarus within the framework of participation in BRICS activities defines the priority areas of the country's interaction with the members of the association and partner states of the group. As for the SCO, the document formulates the key areas of activity, goals and objectives of the Republic of Belarus in this organisation, as well as mechanisms for their implementation in the near future.
Both strategies are designed for the period until 2030. At the same time, they can be extended, updated or revised.
According to First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergey Lukashevich, the development of these fundamental documents was a logical step following the republic's accession to the SCO as a full member and obtaining the status of BRICS partner in 2024.

Belarus joined the SCO last summer. In November, Lukashenko announced his readiness to join BRICS as a partner country, and in late December, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that from 1 January 2025, Belarus, as well as Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan will get this status.
