UAE launches national policy to preserve modern architectural heritage
The policy is expected to boost cultural tourism
The UAE Ministry of Culture has officially launched the National Policy for the Preservation of Modern Architectural Heritage. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive national vision for modern architectural heritage preservation, reinforcing the UAE’s identity, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering innovation in architecture. The policy seeks to protect and celebrate structures that reflect the country’s cultural and historical evolution.
Shatha Al Mulla, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Heritage and Arts Sector, presented the key objectives of the policy, which include strengthening collaboration between governmental bodies, academic institutions, non-profit organisations, and the private sector.
The policy is expected to boost cultural tourism by showcasing the architectural value of iconic structures, aligning with the UAE’s sustainable development goals at economic, environmental, and social levels.
It also encourages innovation by inspiring young architects and designers to incorporate elements of modern heritage into contemporary designs, ensuring the continuity of the country’s architectural identity.
