Zimbabwe to host Zimbabwe-Iran Trade and Investment Conference for strengthening bilateral ties
Zimbabwe is set to host the Zimbabwe-Iran Trade and Investment Conference (ZITIC), marking a significant step towards deepening economic cooperation between the two nations, as reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.
Under the framework of economic diplomacy outlined in Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), bilateral ties have expanded, particularly in health and trade sectors.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Sheillah Chikomo, confirmed that ZITIC will build on the commitments made during the ninth session of the Zimbabwe-Iran Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC). She emphasised the importance of strengthening economic collaboration and highlighted a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that enhances cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, medical education, health tourism, and health system management.
Iranian Charge d'Affaires, Hadi Taheri, acknowledged the historical and strategic ties between the two countries, underscoring Iran’s role in fostering Zimbabwe's economic growth. He noted that over 100 agreements and MoUs have been signed across various sectors, including education, health, and trade. Iran has also provided scholarships to Zimbabwean students, reinforcing academic cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral relations.
The trade and investment conference is expected to further solidify economic partnerships, opening new avenues for collaboration in key industries, the source claims.
