Egypt food exports reach 210,000 tonnes in one week

Food safety authority outlines volumes, key products, and main trade routes

Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority reported that 5,900 food export consignments were shipped during the week of 17–23 January 2026, with a total volume of around 210,000 tonnes. According to MENA, a partner of TV BRICS, the shipments were handled by 1,540 exporting companies and covered about 764 types of food products, including fruits, vegetables, tubers, grain and flour products, processed fruit and vegetables, and other food items.

Fruit exports included 30 varieties totalling 82,000 tonnes. Citrus fruits led the category at 67,000 tonnes, followed by strawberries at about 8,000 tonnes and other fruits at 7,000 tonnes. Vegetable exports reached 46,000 tonnes across 34 varieties. Sweet potatoes ranked first among vegetables at 10,000 tonnes, while beans and potatoes followed with 7,000 tonnes each.

Egyptian food exports reached a wide range of global markets. Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the UAE were among the leading destinations, as part of trade with 182 importing countries during the week. Airport in Cairo handled the highest number of export consignments at 1,232.

On the import side, Egypt received 1,844 food consignments totalling about 415,000 tonnes, handled by 930 importing companies. Key imports included wheat, raw sugar, various oils, and soybeans. Russia was the top exporting country to Egypt during the week, followed by Brazil and Indonesia, among 110 supplier countries.

The authority also issued 2,050 export health certificates. During the same period, 1,172 consignments were released under temporary clearance procedures, while 463 shipments benefited from the accelerated release system.
