Egypt strengthens global food trade with robust imports and exports
Food trade volumes increase as authorities ensure compliance with international standards and support market efficiency

Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported strong activity in food imports during the final week of March and early April 2026, alongside intensified monitoring measures to safeguard consumer health.
The country received 2,440 consignments, totalling approximately 510,000 tonnes, handled by 995 importing companies and including strategic commodities such as wheat, edible oils, and soybeans, as reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
On the export side, Egypt continued to expand its global agri-food presence, sending 5,065 consignments, totalling 230,000 tonnes, to 186 countries. Citrus led fruit exports at 45,000 tonnes, followed by strawberries at 20,000 tonnes, while potato exports reached 25,000 tonnes. Key destinations included Saudi Arabia and Russia, highlighting growing international demand for Egyptian products.
To support trade and compliance, the NFSA issued 1,375 health certificates and 3,218 export permits for agricultural goods, benefiting 1,582 companies and facilitating smoother global market access. These measures reinforced product quality, streamlined operations, and strengthened the competitiveness of Egypt’s food exports on the international stage.
