Ethiopian diplomat emphasises need for greater cooperation in agriculture within BRICS

He said this statement in Brasilia at the BRICS Agricultural Working Group's Meeting

From 12 to 14 March 2025, Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, is hosting a meeting of the BRICS Agricultural Working Group.

A delegation from Ethiopia presented the country's experience in agricultural development, food security, and family farming support programmes. This is reported by Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.

Ambassador of Ethiopia to Brazil Leulseged Tadese stressed that agricultural modernisation and food security are key priorities of the Ethiopian government.

He noted that the Ethiopian government continues to implement comprehensive agricultural development, food security and nutrition improvement programmes, including initiatives such as the National Wheat Harvest and Bounty of the Basket (YeLemat Trufat), which have already yielded significant results.

It was also noted that Ethiopia has a large-scale national Green Legacy programme aimed at reforestation, food security and green jobs.

The Ambassador of Ethiopia emphasised the need to enhance cooperation in the field of agriculture within the BRICS framework to share best practices, facilitate technology transfer, build capacity, and attract investment in this area.

Paulo Teixeira, Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming of Brazil, on his part, pointed out the importance of consolidating cooperation in the agricultural sector in the BRICS platform.

Earlier, the BRICS Agriculture Working Group held its first meeting. They discussed food security, sustainable agricultural production, trade and infrastructure development, and strategic agreements.
