Malaysia and Russia deepen cooperation in halal industry and nuclear energy
Malaysia's main exports to Russia are electronic components, industrial machinery and processed food products
Malaysia and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, with emphasis on high-growth sectors such as the halal industry, agriculture, and energy, following the working visit of Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof to the Russian Federation. This is reported by VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.
At a press conference concluding the visit, Fadillah highlighted that bilateral trade between the two countries stood at to US$2.48 billion. Russia ranked as Malaysia’s ninth-largest trading partner in Europe, with key Malaysian exports including electronic components, industrial machinery, and processed food products.
Encouraging stronger business engagement, Fadillah invited Russian companies to invest in priority sectors in Malaysia such as aerospace, agricultural technology, energy, information and communications technology, digital economy, and halal production. He also proposed intensified cooperation in research areas including fertilisers, pesticide development, agricultural engineering, and food technology.
Energy cooperation emerged as a key agenda item, with Russia pledging support for Malaysia’s long-term nuclear energy ambitions under the National Energy Transition Roadmap. The parties held high-level discussions focusing on potential collaboration in nuclear workforce development and modernisation of Malaysia’s power grid infrastructure.
